Conversion Rate

The percentage of visitors or users who complete a desired action out of the total number who had the opportunity, calculated as (conversions ÷ total visitors) × 100. For example, if 1,000 people visit your sales page and 30 buy, your conversion rate is 3%. Different stages of your funnel have different conversion rates: email open rates, click-through rates, add-to-cart rates, and checkout completion rates. Tracking conversion rates at each stage helps identify bottlenecks. Industry averages vary widely, but typical e-commerce conversion rates range from 1-3%, landing pages from 5-15%, and high-quality sales funnels can achieve 20%+ conversion on warm traffic.

Why it matters

Improving conversion rate has a multiplier effect on revenue. Doubling your conversion rate doubles revenue without increasing traffic or marketing costs. Even small improvements (2% to 3%) represent a 50% revenue increase.
